Change Language

A message from our president

Kate Moody Welcome to the Irish Language Association of Australia's website!

The Association's main aim is to encourage people to learn Irish, but also to create an Irish speaking community in this country. We are extremely proud of our achievements in the last ten years.

The Irish Nobel Prize-winning poet, William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) once wrote that 'in dreams begins responsibility'. I believe that the dream of starting an Irish language association here in Australia has become our collective responsibility to continue and we have great hope for the future growth and development of the language.

Australia is a multicultural country and scores of languages besides English are spoken, including Irish. There is a strong tie between the language and the Irish culture as well as a long oral tradition of folklore, poetry and song. We are proud to be playing a part in strengthening that tie and maintaining that tradition here in Australia.

The Internet is a great way for Irish speakers world wide to meet and share information and ideas. We are grateful to our members and other contributors for their offerings and input to this site.

If there is something you would like to see added or you would like to contribute yourself then please let us know.

Always be proud of your language.

Kate Moody
