Ranganna Gaeilge / Irish Language Classes

PLEASE NOTE

All of the organizations listed on this page are separate entities with their own rules, AGMs and elected committees. Most of them are registered with their local consumer affairs dept either in their own right or under the name of a parent organization. Some require payment of an annual fee which in turn confers membership privileges including voting. All the information given here is current as of mid 2016 and is updated whenever we are advised of changes.

For 2017 two summer schools have been announced in Canberra and there are links to both of their flyers below. For more information please see their respective websites.

There are about twelve active classes around Australia and N.Z. at present. This is more than at any time in the past. As well as that, there are six classes that are inactive at present although it is always possible that they could be re-started at some stage. "Inactive" in this context means there may still a group of interested students but there is no local teacher.

NEW ZEALAND

We previously had classes listed in Onehunga High SChool (in 2008) and Auckland (in 2009), but unfortunately these are no longer running. As of Sept 2015 a new class has been started at Wellington Irish Society as well as the existing class at Hutt Valley Irish Club.

If you know of any other classes in Australia or N.Z. or have new information about any of the ones listed, please send us details. This invitation also extends to private tutors as we occasionally get requests about that option. In all cases a website or facebook link is preferable to giving out personal data such as email addresses or phone numbers.

MEETUPS

After many previous attempts there are now two Irish Language Meetup Groups running in Australia, one each in Melbourne and Sydney. They aim to cater for casual conversation, mainly among ex-pats, so they are not strictly classes for learners. Being informal there is no membership fee or organizational structure involved so you can just turn up and take part. Click here for full details
